Gutter Cleaning & Repair in Memphis, TN

Memphis gets a lot of rain — well over fifty inches in a typical year, much of it in heavy spring and summer downpours — and it's a city full of big trees. Midtown's willow oaks, East Memphis's pines and magnolias, and the oaks and sweetgums shading Germantown and Bartlett yards drop leaves, needles, seed pods and pollen into gutters nearly year-round. When gutters clog, the water spills over the edge, splashes against siding and brick, soaks the soil next to the foundation, and finds its way into crawlspaces and basements. Over time, the extra weight of wet debris pulls gutters away from the fascia, and water running behind them rots the wood.

We clean gutters by hand and flush the downspouts so water actually flows through them, not just across them. While we're up there, we check every run: tightening or replacing loose hangers, re-pitching sagging sections so water heads to the downspouts, sealing leaking corners and end caps, and reattaching downspouts that pulled loose in a storm. We add or extend splash blocks and downspout extensions so the water ends up well away from the foundation. If gutter guards make sense for your trees, we'll explain the options honestly. We bag the debris and leave your yard clean instead of dumping it in the flower beds.

What this covers

  • Hand cleaning of all gutter runs
  • Downspout flushing and unclogging
  • Loose hanger tightening and replacement
  • Sagging gutter re-pitching
  • Leaking seam, corner and end cap sealing
  • Downspout reattachment and extensions
  • Gutter guard installation on request
  • Debris bagging and roof edge cleanup
A note from around here: Willow oaks in Midtown, pines and magnolias in East Memphis, and sweetgums and oaks in Germantown and Bartlett all fill gutters in different seasons, so many Memphis homes need cleaning more than once a year.

How a gutter cleaning & repair visit usually goes

Check From the Ground and Roof

We look over the gutters, downspouts and roof edge to spot clogs, sags, leaks and loose hangers before we start.

Clean and Flush

We remove debris by hand, bag it, and flush each run and downspout to confirm water moves freely.

Repair and Adjust

We tighten or replace hangers, re-pitch sagging runs, seal leaking joints and reattach loose downspouts.

Direct the Water

We set splash blocks and extensions so water drains away from the foundation, then clean up the yard.

Ice storms are rare in Memphis, but when they come, clogged gutters make them worse. Water trapped behind leaves freezes, the weight pulls the gutter off the house, and melting ice backs up under the shingles and leaks into ceilings. A clean gutter in December is the simplest protection against that. Spring is the other busy season: oak pollen and catkins coat everything in April, followed by heavy thunderstorms that test every downspout. Homes on crawlspaces, common across Midtown, East Memphis and Whitehaven, benefit most from good gutters, because water dumped next to the foundation ends up under the house, raising humidity and inviting mold, wood rot and pests.

What shapes the price in Memphis

Gutter cleaning cost depends on the size and height of your home, how much debris is packed in, and how much repair the system needs. A one-story ranch with light debris is the quickest. Two-story homes, steep roofs, and gutters packed solid with wet leaves and seedlings take more time and safety setup. Repairs like re-hanging sagging runs, sealing many leaking joints or replacing damaged downspouts add parts and labor. Many people set up regular fall and spring cleanings, which keeps each visit quick and prevents bigger repairs. Older Midtown homes sometimes have half-round or built-in box gutters that need more careful handling than modern K-style runs, and we'll price those after a look rather than guess. Adding downspout extensions or splash blocks is a small extra that often pays for itself the first time a summer storm stalls over the city.

Neighbors often ask

How often should I have my gutters cleaned in Memphis?

At least twice a year for most homes: once in late fall after the leaves drop and once in late spring after the pollen, seeds and catkins come down. Homes under heavy oak or pine cover, especially in Midtown, East Memphis and Germantown, may need three cleanings. If you see water spilling over the edge during a storm, they're overdue.

Water pours over my gutters even though they're clean. Why?

Usually the gutter isn't pitched properly toward the downspout, a downspout is undersized or clogged lower down, or the gutter has pulled away from the fascia. Memphis downpours dump a lot of water quickly, and a gutter has to be sized and sloped right to keep up. We check the pitch, flush the downspouts and re-hang sagging sections.

Are gutter guards worth it?

They can be, depending on your trees. Guards help a lot with large oak leaves, but fine pine needles, oak catkins and sweetgum balls can still clog some styles, and every guard needs occasional cleaning. We'll tell you honestly whether guards are a good fit for your house and which type works best with your trees.

Can you clean gutters on a two-story house?

Yes. We use proper ladders, stabilizers and safety gear for two-story homes, which are common in Germantown, Bartlett and Cordova. Very steep roofs or unusual access may need extra setup, and we'll tell you if a job needs a different approach.

My gutters leak at the corners. Can you fix that without replacing them?

Usually, yes. Corner and seam leaks come from old sealant that dried out and cracked. We clean the joint, reseal it with gutter sealant, and tighten the fasteners. If the metal itself has rusted through, we can replace that section rather than the whole system.
